Funeral Cards

Funeral cards are usually small, 2-1/2 inch by 4-1/4 inch laminated cards given out at funerals or memorial services. They are to remember the deceased and serve as a lasting memory and memorial tribute of the loved one. Funeral cards are given as a keepsake to funeral attendees. Not only given at funerals, funeral prayer cards can be shared at visitations, wakes, viewings, memorial services, and celebrations of life. It is also nice to send one to those loved ones who cannot make it to the service.

Funeral cards go by many names. They are also called in memoriam cards, prayer cards, memorial cards, etc. Funeral cards can be either religious or secular. The type of service will indicate what type of card you may want. A card for a religious service is often called a prayer card and may have images and quotes from the religion. A funeral card for a secular service may provide inspirational images and quotes of the family’s choice.

Creating funeral cards is a quick and easy way to share a tribute of your loved one with all attendees.

Usually, the front of the memorial card is a devotional picture or inspirational photo. For religious services, it is often a religious image. For example, if the funeral service is Catholic, the image may be of the Virgin Mary or Jesus. If the service is secular, the image may be of a beautiful scenery, sunset, clouds, etc. Any photo your beloved will do, but it is usually something respectful and emotionally moving.

The back of the funeral card may include a personal photo, dates of birth and death and an inspirational quote. The type of inspirational quote will depend on the type of funeral service and wishes of the family. For a religious service, the writing on the back is usually a bible passage or prayer. For a secular service, the writing may be a favorite quote or inspirational poem. The back may also include a small obituary of the deceased.

The personal photo on the back may be one or two photos of the deceased as they wish to be remembered.
